Intermediate Instructor Reformer Course - Outline


About the Course:

The Australian Pilates Academy will conduct the next Pilates Level 1 Instructor Reformer Course from 10 - 14 December 2006. After the initial five days of training you will be qualified to instruct individuals and groups in Pilates Reformer training at an Intermediate standard.

Additional Instructor Training:

The course requires an additional five days of instructional technique training over a five month period which will culminate in a final practical examination of the instructors ability.

Observation and Instruction:

Prior to the certificate of completion being issued the instructor must also complete 20 hours of observation and 20 hours of instruction and 20 hours of self mastery in order to complete the course and qualify for a certification certificate.

Course Prerequisite

Pilates Reformer instruction is an extension to your qualifications as a Pilates floor trainer, therefore, it is important that you are qualified appropriately as a Pilates instructor in Mat Level 1. In accordance with APA's RCC program acceptance will be considered once evidence of prior learning is produced.

Course Preparation

Pilates Reformer courses are very intense and require a high level of fitness, strength and endurance in order to participate. Instructors should be well versed in Anatomy and Physiology in particular of the neck, spine and hip region. Pilates Instructors should be well versed in Reformer instruction from a qualified Reformer instructor trained by The Australian Pilates Academy.

It is advisable that you attend Reformer classes by an instructor that is registered and trained by The Australian Pilates Academy.

What you will cover on the course

The Australian Pilates Academy has developed the most comprehensive short course available on the market today. You can expect to learn the following:

  • A review on the Australian Pilates Academy's theory on Pilates training.
  • 70 Reformer exercises using the Pilates method and variations of the exercise to cater for individual needs.
  • Instructional development
  • Management of group classes
  • Client Screening and Assessment
  • Client development
  • Client Progression
  • Research on specific diseases and injuries of the spine and how to apply Pilates exercises to assist in their management.
  • Individual Client Exercise Prescription
  • Designing a class routine

All of these points of instruction are being researched to map and align them with ITAB competencies. The Australian Pilates Academy has an active Recognition of Current Competency (RCC) and Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) program in place. Should you be qualified in some or all of the above, in accordance with APA's RCC and RPL program, recognition of prior learning may be considered once evidence of that prior learning is produced
